I was born in Redruth and grew up in Crofthandy near St Day. I have lived in St Austell for 9 years, firstly in Poltair and in Bethel ward for 6 years. I feel at home here and enjoy being part of a vibrant and very welcoming community. I am proudly Cornish.
I have a background in Administration and later in Disability Rights. Some roles were a combination of the two, all included dealing with people. I have held both paid and voluntary roles. I am currently a Trustee of START (St Austell Revival Together). We run the Clothes Bank, Swap Shop, and Crafty Chat, a mental wellbeing group. I am also a member of the St Austell Marie Curie Fundraising Group.
I joined the Labour Party in 2015 and am currently in my second term as Disability Officer. My role involves helping disabled members to become as involved with our activities as they wish, and supporting other officers in planning events and policies that are inclusive. More generally I have been actively involved with campaigning., being a regular at street stalls, and undertaking telephone canvassing. I also assist constituents with welfare rights work and other related questions.
I will:- Work to ensure that St Austell remains a safe place to live, and that all residents are able to enjoy the opportunities it offers. I will work with police and other organisations to tackle antisocial behaviour at all levels.
Support projects and organisations that help foster a sense of community, and promote community Involvement in their work.
Support ‘Buy Local' initiatives to help our economy recover from recent events.
Support housing developments that meet the needs of residents whilst maintaining quality of life factors such as open spaces, and sufficient public services for all.
Work to ensure that everyone has access to reliable and affordable transport.
Support health and social services provision that meets the needs of local people whilst allowing them to lead the life they choose.
Work with fellow councillors and other organisations to provide the best outcomes for local people.
Be both a listening ear and a voice for those I represent
