I’m ‘Ste’ to most people and am currently the Councillor for the Newquay Town Council Treloggan ward having been elected in 2017. I’m also the Chair of Newquay Town Council’s Planning and Licensing committee and I have previously also sat on the Footpaths, Bridleways and Open Spaces committee. I sit on several working parties including Climate Change, Community Governance Review, Newquay Neighbourhood Plan and the newly formed Town Regeneration Working Party – an idea of mine to form a cross council cross community group focussed on recovering from the impact of Covid-19, I thoroughly enjoy my work as a Councillor and will usually be found at the heart of debates and decisions trying to make Newquay and my ward of Treloggan a better place for all.
I am passionate about equality and have been involved with Pride movements around the UK for decades, I’m currently an ambassador and organiser with Cornwall Pride. I fervently believe that the drive for real equality benefits both the oppressed and wider society, I’ve too often seen people get left behind because other people create situations that leave them on the fringes of our society, that’s why I’ve often been found doing voluntary work, from painting public seating to sexual-health outreach in a men’s prison – we are all society. |
Locally my passion is trying to build on the great sense of community we have in Newquay and Cornwall as a whole. Community is built on many things including a stable home and understanding and tackling the perennial problem of precarious and unaffordable housing is one of my main goals, it goes hand in hand with our precarious tourism based economy and post industrial decline that means the average income in Cornwall is around 30% lower than the rest of the UK, people needs decent homes, jobs, healthcare, and opportunity.
I listen to what people need and want and try to make it happen. |
