Anti-social behaviour has blighted St Austell recently. While Cornwall Council has worked with the Police and others to reduce the instances, the measures have been temporary. We need them to be permanent and effective. My Pledge I will work with the Police, the Councils and others to help eradicate anti-social behaviour in St Austell Students in St Austell now have to travel to Truro or Bodmin if they wish to study at A Level, because Cornwall College can no longer offer courses here. My Pledge I will campaign for the return of A Level courses to St Austell and support improvements to the Cornwall College, St Austell campus It is more difficult than ever for young people to get onto the property ladder due to low wages and ever rising prices. My Pledge I will campaign to ensure that new local developments provide a greater proportion of genuinely affordable housing, and Cornwall Council expands its own provision of affordable houses to rent or buy |
About Me![]() I am preparing for the Cornwall Council elections next year, and if successful, will represent Poltair and Mount Charles Division.
I was born and grew up in St Austell so I am very familiar with the area, having lived in Mount Charles, and most of my adult life in Poltair. Therefore I understand the issues affecting peoples lives in the area, and would like to be able to address them. As a Labour candidate, I would actively campaign and promote our policies and would work with the Labour Group of Councillors to oppose cuts and austerity in Cornwall, against the Tory government and Lib Dem / Independent run Council. Priorities must be jobs, affordable and social housing to meet local needs- not developer driven, support for homelessness, accessible NHS and Social Care, Education, business support, climate change actions, pollution safeguards, animal welfare, keeping the hunting ban, tough action on fly tipping, and anti social behaviour. We face additional challenges with the Covid pandemic. I was elected Town Councillor for Poltair Ward in 2015 when Conservative MP Steve Double vacated the seat, and re-elected in 2017 with an increase of support. I am currently vice chair of the Planning and Regeneration Committee, and I have also served on the Finance and General Purposes, Climate Change, and Staffing Committees. I have taken up many issues locally and helped to resolve them. Since joining the Labour Party in 1983, I have been active at Branch , Constituency and Region, and throughout my working life as a Trade Union representative, elected at workplace to NEC including serving on the Regional TUC Committee. I am Cornwall Co-operative Party Treasurer and a committee member of South West Peninsula Co-operative Party Council. As Treasurer / Event Organiser for Poltair Residents Association. I recently successfully obtained funding amounting to £16,000 for improvements to our green spaces, Thornpark and Lostwood Community Garden. I feel very honoured to have received the Cornwall Civic Award in November for services to the Community. With your support we can win, Andrea andrealanxon@yahoo.co.uk Tel. 01726 74640 |
